Surprising Fusions in Live Animation

Moderated by Colette Searls

Internationally acclaimed political cartoonist Kevin (Kal) Kallaugher will present his cutting-edge, digitally-puppeteered animated caricatures, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain. Kal and his colleagues from Kaltoons will demonstrate how they use video game technology and voice activation software to re-imagine political satire with real-time puppeteering. To watch video clips and learn more about Kal's work (or listen to his recent NPR interview), visit www.kaltoons.com.

NANA PROJECTS director Molly Ross will present the technical magic behind their unique style of projected shadow puppetry. This company of lanterneers and visual alchemists specialize in original "cultural performances" including Paper Lantern Parades and Magic Lantern Shows - animated projections performed live. Their signature event, The Great Halloween Lantern Parade, draws audiences of over 5000 each year. Learn more at www.nanaprojects.com.
