The University of Maryland is located just outside Washington, DC, and provides us with a terrific setting for our 2008 Regional Festival. It's the alma mater of Jim and Jane Henson.
You'll see sculptor Jay Hall Carpenter's wonderful memorial to Jim and Kermit right outside the Stamp Student Union, and have access to the "Henson Legacy Collection" of early Henson videos (including the "Sam and Friends" TV series and the famed "Wilkins and Wontkins" commercials) in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library.
Our performances, exhibit, puppetry store, hospitality, and other activities will be held in the new Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center - a spacious, beautiful, and comfortable honest-to-goodness "state of the art facility" - a perfect venue for our festival.
And . . . All of our dorms are air-conditioned!
On Friday, July 11, the festival will move down the road to Glen Echo Park for the afternoon. You'll see the Puppet Co.'s "Wizard of Oz" in the new Puppet Co. Playhouse, and enjoy other performances, exhibits, and activities in the Park, including a ride on the newly restored 1921 Dentzel Carousel.
